Requirements
Job Purpose
To deliver ionizing radiation to the patient that is compliant with the radiation therapy plan and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist while under the general supervision Medical Physicist.
Minimum Requirements
Radiologic Technologist licensure
2-year training at a RT school and experience with accelerators and R&V systems
Current CPR
Elora Registration for attachment to CCA institution.
2 –5 years’ experience in all aspects of therapy (e.g., simulation, use of CT, accelerator, R&V systems)
Responsibilities:
Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for the facility’s patients, visitors, and staff members on a consistent basis.
Explaining the process to patients and answering their questions.
Prepares equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices, and positions patient according to prescription.
Supports the patient in getting into the required position for the treatment.
Enters data into computer and sets controls to operate and adjust equipment and regulate dosage.
Delivers radiation treatment according to written prescription and treatment plan.
Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety in patient care throughout the treatment administration.
Recognizes deviation from prescribed treatment delivery and reports all deviations to the Medical Physicist.
Assures the quality of treatment delivery through the complete and accurate documentation of treatment records.
Assists with equipment maintenance logs (e.g., departmental stock, crash cart, refrigerator, temperature logs etc.).
Determines the exact location of the area requiring treatment.
Calibrates and operates the machine to treat the patient with radiation.
Monitors the patient to check for unusual reactions to the treatment.
Assures the quality and consistency of treatment portal placement by utilizing IGRT as prescribed by the physician.
Explains treatment procedures to patient and/or family members and refers medical questions to the appropriate staff members.
Ensures equipment remains in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
Takes localization digital radiographs according to planned treatment delivery under the direction of a radiation oncologist.
Assists physician(s) or nurse(s) in the administration of contrast agents used during treatment localization.
Performs measurements for use during treatment calculation.
