Job Description
Using initiative and independent judgment, plans, implements and evaluates outcomes of professional nursing care for patients in accordance with CCA policies. Assumes lead nurse and preceptor responsibilities as assigned. Administers chemotherapeutics, performs procedures and assists the physician and performs related clinic duties. Plans and provides patient/family teaching. Recognizes and intervenes in oncology emergencies.
Minimum Requirements
The following qualifications or equivalents are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
Education and formal Training:
Current licensure as a RN in facility state.
Current CPR required.
Requires CCA Oncology Training Programme at first available class.
Work Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience with
One (1) year other speciality or Critical care
One (1) year Oncology Nursing.
Knowledge, skills, and Abilities Required:
Demonstrated verbal, written skills and positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated beginning effective organizational, teaching and leadership skills.
Knowledge of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of the patients served.
Visual and auditory acuity for accurate patient assessment.
Working knowledge and consistent use of personal protective equipment.
Physical Requirements: Work requires long periods of standing, walking, or sitting and occasional assistance with heavy lifting.
May be required to work variable shifts or weekends on occasion.
Age of Patients Served: Paediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric
Responsibilities
The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor that are not listed below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time.

Monitors department and mentors’ others in Service Excellence. Utilizes CCA values as a framework for all activities. Maintains an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for all patients.
Clinical Practice: Requiring occasional assistance and direction, performs nursing process -assesses the patient and identifies evidence-based nursing diagnosis; determines plan of care with patient input, organizes, implements, and evaluates care provided and outcomes achieved; demonstrates continuous skill and knowledge base development. Assesses patient’s nutritional status. Provides nursing care as required by the patients in the clinic including fundamental patient care, comfort measures, emergency procedures, medication administration, and other nursing functions needed to ensure patient comfort and safety. Teaches patients/family ranging from paediatrics to geriatrics, about their disease, its treatment, and ways to minimize treatment side effects. Provides emotional support to patients and families. Assists physicians during patient exams and procedures performed in the clinic. Assists in coordinating the scheduling of patient consultations, procedures, simulations, and follow-up visits. Assists with equipment maintenance logs (e.g., Department stock, crash cart, refrigerator, temperature logs etc.).
Safety: Provides a safe physical and emotional environment for self, co-workers, and patients; safely administers medications; recognizes side effects, life threatening situations and responds appropriately; manages drug inventory and expirations dates of medication and supplies. Admixture of medications is managed using ISP standards and appropriate protective equipment.
Information Management: Maintains an accurate, legible, timely and relevant record of patient care that also supports appropriate charge capture. Communicates information accurately and timely; provides patient and co-worker education. Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data and complies with HIPAA guidelines and all applicable laws and regulations related to CCA business. Communicates and collaborates effectively with Pharmacist, Front office, and Physicians.
Work Management: Efficiently and effectively completes assignments; demonstrates appropriate priority setting; functions as Lead nurse as assigned; maintains healthy work-life balance by resolving system issues that prevent completion of duties by end of business day Directs daily activities of the medical assistant and assists in the evaluation of his/her performance. Assists with scheduling of required outpatient lab tests, x-rays, scans, etc. a needed. Performs other clinic related responsibilities as required.
Professional Development: demonstrates accountability and responsibility for own performance and professional growth; maintains required certification, licensure, and credentialing; attends national conference and shares information obtained with co-workers upon return. Communicates to inpatient staff and referring physicians’ treatment related information as needed. Assists in the instruction of referring physician, and nursing staff regarding radiotherapy chemotherapy and its side effects. Assists in the orientation and training of co-workers as assigned.
Performance Improvement: Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators; participates in clinic and corporate performance improvement activities.
Additional Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
Complete patient assessments and communicates significant findings to physician staff in a timely manner.
Provide exceptional nursing care as required by the patients in the department including fundamental patient care, comfort measures, emergency procedures, medication administration, and other nursing functions needed to ensure patient comfort and safety.
Assist physicians during patient exams and procedures when applicable.
Provide safety in patient care through the consistent practice of departmental procedures for treatment administration.
Assure the quality of treatment delivery and procedures through the complete and accurate documentation of medical records.
Explain all procedures to patient and/or family members and refer physician medical questions appropriately.
Respond promptly, effectively, and compassionately to patient concerns.
Observe patients for expected and unexpected reactions to treatments and communicates this to appropriate staff members.
Counsel patients on possible side effects and expectations of their treatment course.
Perform accurate and timely onsite billing and charge capture for patient services.
Complete and maintains an accurate record of procedures, including billing information and codes.
Maintain safe, orderly department and rooms.
Provide on-call coverage for the treatment of patients in emergency situations.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with co-workers, managers, and physicians.
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., BARC, AERB, BRIT, Drug Controller, APPCB).
Promote positive patient relations and strives to achieve patient/family satisfaction.
Ensure that nursing documentation is complete and accurate in compliance with standards for documentation.
Ensure that incident and accident reports (including medication error reports) are completed and submitted on a timely basis.
Comply with requested compliance audits as needed.
Effectively communicate with patients by listening to patient concerns and requests, and relay concerns and feedback to the appropriate staff members.
Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Utilize good judgment when referring technical questions and/or difficult cases to supervisor.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of all CCA Hospital policies and safety procedures.
Adhere to all infection control measures and uphold safety and care standards set forth by CCA Hospital.
Conduct self in a courteous, helpful, dignified, and professional manner always when dealing with patients, co-workers, supervisors and/or the public.
Maintain an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for the facility’s patients, visitors, and staff members on a consistent basis.
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Assure that all certifications, licenses and/or registrations are up to date
Perform related duties as designated by the supervisor.
Complies with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, and State Department of Health).
Practices and encourages effective cost containment measures by economical use of equipment, supplies, and personnel.
Promotes positive patient relations and strives to achieve patient/family satisfaction.
Ensures that nursing documentation is complete and accurate in compliance with standards for documentation.
Plans and participates in the orientation of new staff members.
Maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data and enforces HIPAA standards and regulations.
Ensures that incident and accident reports (including medication error reports) are completed and submitted on a timely basis. All concerns – actual or potential are reported to allow for process resolution.
Complies and participates with requested compliance audits.
Previews and evaluates treatment/procedure schedule on a weekly basis (for the following week), to trouble shoot congested scheduling and ensure that treatments/procedures are spread out throughout the day.
Performs other duties as necessary.
Must be able to deal sensitively but objectively with chronically and critically ill patients and apprehensive families.
Organizational ability is required to plan, direct, and control the activity of the treatment area and to recognize and establish priorities.
Able to communicate with people beyond giving instructions, as in coordinating activities with various hospital departments and other office sites.
Ability to support and defend hospital policy to all members of the staff regardless of personal opinions.
Flexibility to adjust to changing conditions in the various details of the position.
Flexibility to do all the shift duties according to the departmental requirements.
